The Ognissanti Crucifix

Here is a picture of a replica of the Ognissanti (All Saints) Crucifix I recently bought from a local, heroic Catholic bookstore.

I really liked it as soon as I saw it but initially decided to look online at crucifixes a bit more before buying anything.

Somewhere in my search online, I came across this story about the real Ognissanti Crucifix. After reading the article and seeing a picture of the real crucifix, I knew without a doubt that the replica of the Ognissanti Crucifix was the crucifix for me. The real crucifix is in a church in Florence, Italy, dates back to the 14th century,  and is a work of Giotto di Bondone.

Below is a picture of the real crucifix. The replica can be ordered here or here.

  1. Who is on it? (Well, besides the corpse of Jesus.) Jesus, Mary & ??

    • John! I wish I could say I figured that out right away, but I didn’t.

26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” 27 and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. —John 19:26-27
